As I was reading the sites that Marlen gave us to read I found a few statements that I found was interesting to me as a reader. In the results section I found some information that I found was relavent. In the section titled What the Results Section Includes gives two facts that I feel are good to include in my results section. They are statements of results and it gives a brief description of what that is. The next section is explanatory text and that gives a brief description of what needs to be included. I like the section labeled Organization. It list two things that need to be included to keep your results section organized. Then at the end of the page it gives a short example of a results section of a research paper.
The next thing I read was the results section of what he gave us to read. In this article it gives a few things that I feel are important when writing my results section. The article includes the function of your discussion paper. It states that the function of the discussion is to interpret your results in light of what was already known about the subject of the investigation and to explain our new understanding of the problem after taking your results into consideration (bates.edu). I like how the discussion will always connect to the introduction in some way. I believe that it is true. Then it list a few fundamental questions that could be included. Next it list the style and the main important thing that it includes is to always us an active voice when possible. Then it mentions the approach part and the writer needs organize the discussion to address the experiments. Then it mentions that the writer must relate your work to the findings of other studies. I feel that is very important in writing a discussion section. Then the final part it talks about is that you can’t introduce new results in the discussion.
The final section of the sites that we had to read is about the conclusion part of our research paper. In this article I found a few things that are important in writing a conclusion. In this section of the article it mentions that the conclusion is one of the hardest sections to write in a research paper. I believe that it is true. The conclusion is where you have a chance to say your last word about the subject. Then it talks about what should be included in your conclusion section. Next it mentions a few ideas to help you write your conclusion section. It list a few strategies to write your conclusion. Then it list strategies to avoid. Finally in mentions four kinds of ineffective conclusions.
One article that I found only talks about how to write a results and discussion section. In the results section it mentions what should and shouldn’t be included in a results paper. The first section that it talks about is called writing a results section. Right off of the bat it mentions what the most important thing is and it is You must clearly distinguish material that would normally be included in a research article from any raw data or other appendix material that would not be published (rice.edu). Next it give a bullet list of the content of a results section. Then it mentions what to avoid. Then it mentions the style of a results section. Finally it gives a bullet list about figures and tables.
The next section of the article is about the discussions section of a research paper. The first thing that it mentions is to interpret the data in the discussions in appropriate depth. Then it gives a bullet list for the content and the style of a discussion part of a paper.
The second article that I found talks about two different forms of writing a results section. The article mentions about quantitative information and then qualitative information. The article gives a definition on what quantitative information and qualitative information are. Then it gives a brief description on what each type of information is about.
The next part of the article gives a brief description on what the discussion section should be about. One thing that I noticed is that this section should be in present tense. I wish that this section should be a little longer to give more detail in what should be included in this section of a research paper.
The next section is about the conclusion of a research paper. In this section it mentions that the conclusion ties your research to your thesis statement. It also binds all of the main ideas in your thinking and writing. I wish that this section was longer so that it would tell me how to write this section but it gives some information on what the section should look like.
The last article that I found on how to write the last three sections of a research paper is very brief. In the results section it just says answer the question “What did you find”. In the discussions section is just says answer the question “What do these findings mean?” In the conclusion section it says answer the question “What do you conclude? What actions need to taken?” I wish that this article would give more information on what these sections are about but that didn’t happen.
